Descendants of H. Heinrich Schroeder
Generation No. 1
1. H. HEINRICH1 SCHROEDER was born Abt. 1823 in Hanover, Germany, and died June 03, 1870 in Black Hawk Co., Iowa. He married MARY UNKNOWN. She was born Abt. 1824 in Hanover, Germany, and died Unknown.
Notes for H. HEINRICH SCHROEDER: H. Heinrich Schroeder is buried in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Black Hawk County, Iowa. From the Cemetery List, compiled by Arlene Riensche, it states - H. Heinrich Schroeder, d. June 3, (no year), 48y, 11m, 1d. I believe he died between 1870 - 1872. Henry Schroeder is named on the 1870 Census as 47 years old. The other strange thing is that Henry Schroeder is shown as owning property in 1870 but Mary Schroeder, his wife, is named as Head of Household. The Stolte family is also named in the same houshold (83, lines 15-23) and it may be that Frederick Stolte is a brother to Mary Schroeder.
1870 Census, Fox Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa, page 438B (surname spelled Schroder) Mary Schroder, age 46, keeping house, b. in Hanover Dora Schroder, age 18, at home, b. in Hanover William Schroder, age 15, at home, b. in Hanover Henry Schroder, age 47, Farming, real estate - 850, b. in Hanover Frederick Stolte, age 39, Farm Hand, real estate - 100, b. in Hanover Sophia Stolte, age 33, at home, b. in Hanover Henry Stolte, age 6, at home, b. in Hanover Dora Stolte, age 4, at home, b. in Hanover Anna Stolte, age 1, at home, b. in Hanover
As of yet, it is just speculation that this is William H. Schroeder's family. Naming Henry and Mary Schroder/Schroeder as our William's parents is not documented. I am only going by the 1870 & 1880 Census, Fox Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa.

R. E. PULLIN FATALLY GORED BY FARM BULL

FAMILY FINDS BODY ON RETURN FROM CHURCH
Russell E. Pullin, 59, Orange township farmer and one of Iowa's leading breeders of purebred sheep, was Monday, victim of a bull's surprise attack Sunday noon at Pullin farm, two miles southwest of Waterloo. His chest crushed and heart punctured, Pullin was dead when members of his family found him in the barnyard shortly after 1:15 p.m. on their return from United Brethren church services here. The bull, a 4 year old, apparently rushed Pullin as he turned a number of cows out of the barn. After being gored and knocked to the ground, the injured farmer crawled under a fence before becoming unconscious. His cap was 100 feet from his body, the family said. Coronor Sidney D. Smith, terming the fatality accidental, said there will be no inquest. It was believed the bull's attack occurred between 11 and 11:30 a.m., Coroner Smith reported. There were no indications Pullin had been dragged or trampled by the bull the coroner said. Discovery of the mishap was made by a son, Edwin, who carried the father to an automobile and drove to Presbyterian hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Born in Pennsylvania. Russell E. Pullin, son of Joseph and Amanda Pullin, was born June 7, 1881, in Pennsylvania, and accompanied his family to Iowa in 1890. Notes for EUGENE JOSEPH SCHROEDER: Chattanooga - News- Free Press, October, 1981 'FEW DOLLARS' CLAIMED AS MOTIVE IN KILLING OF EUGENE SCHROEDER by: John Wilson, News-Free Press Staff Writer Two former Taft Center inmates had a Yellow Cab driver Eugene Schroeder take them to a remote area of Lakesite "for the sole reason of killing him for no other purpose but taking the few dollars he had," prosecutor Bill Cox told a criminal court jury Wednesday afternoon. The panel of five women and seven men to hear the death-penalty case was selected after a day and a half in Judge Russell Hinson's courtroom at the Justice Building. The state is asking for the electric chair for Vincent Battice, 20, and Jeffrey wayne Hunnicutt, 19. The parents of Hunnicutt, who now live in Washington state, and the widow of cab driver Schroeder sat in the courtroom during the jury selection. Attorney Rodney Strong, representing Hunnicutt, told the jury that "we are not necessarily saying there was no involvement on Jeffrey's part." "You can be present at the scene of a crime and not be guilty of a criminal offence." Attorney Arthur Wulforst, speaking for Battice, said the defense disputes the state's assertion that all evidence in the case will point to the guilt of the two defendants. Assistant District Attorney Cox said that cab driver Schroeder was found by police at Lakesite inside his cab "breathing his last breaths." He said he died "from four .38-caliber projectiles." The Prosecutor said that "sometime before 10:30 p.m. he picked up (at the Trailways bus station) the last passengers he would ever carry." He said "were it not for the alert observations of residents" and quick actions by the sheriff's department "the perpetrators would have escaped." Prosecutor Cox said that several residents who lived nearby heard gunshots and saw two people - "one was black and one was white." Battice is black and Hunnicutt is white. Some Lakesite residents identified the two men that night and will positively point to them in court, it was stated. The two defendants were picked up within a mile and a quarter of the cab a short time after the cab driver was found, the jury was told. Prosecutor Cox said there would be evidence involving fingerprints and also the wallet, flashlight and weapon of the cab driver Schroeder. The incident occurred on October 17, 1981. -end-
---- On Monday, September 14, 1982, a Criminal Court jury rejecting a death sentence and sentenced Vincent Battice, 20, and Jeffrey Wayne Hunnicutt, 19, to life in prison and 40 additional years for the first- degree murder and armed robbery of Yellow Cab driver Eugene Schroeder.
